Invalid plugin detected in Adobe Acrobat Reader if you have PTC CreoView Installed

Since yesterday on computers where CreoView (PTC Creo) is installed, Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes.

Adobe Reader DC has problems opening and closes after loading with the following error:

"Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Acrobat Reader will be quit."

The problem occurs after an Adobe Reader update if you have the CreaoView software installed on your computer.

To solve, enter the Adobe installation folder, looking for the “plug_ins” subfolder. Usually the installation path is as follows:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\plug_ins"

or

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\plug_ins

Close all open sessions of Adobe Reader

Look for an .api file containing the word “CreoView”, delete the file and restart Adobe Reader

To verify correct loading of Adobe, open the program and in the top menu click on “Edit” and then on “Preferences” (or open them directly with CTRL+K).

If there are any faulty plugins, the Preferences page crashes immediately.

If it gives other errors related to the plugins, by doing so we force Adobe to load them, detecting any problems.

Acrobat on windows, pdf preview in file explorer

When you browse folders using File Explorer, if you select for example an Excel file, you will be able to preview the file on the right, without opening it. How to get the same by selecting a pdf?

First of all, Adobe Acrobat Reader must be the default application with which you open pdf files. To try it out, just click on a pdf file and see with which application it is opened. If it is not Adobe Acrobat Reader, you have to change this setting by entering “Default apps”.

Adobe Reader configuration

To preview a pdf file in File Explorer, you need to open Adobe Acrobat Reader. On the top left, select the “Edit” menu, choose “Preferences”. Choose “General” in the Categories list. Select the “Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer” check box.”. Restart your pc.
